A new fly line is born!
Zimsen Technical Fly lines is the result from many years of experience in product development of fly lines. Based on our improved manufacturing process and meticulous tests we have found what we believe the optimal mixing conditions of all components to reach a balance in the stretch factor between core and coating. One of the components we particularly like to mention is the mixing of a new silicone type that give the lines a very low friction and make them shoot very well. This process of silicone treatment is very unique and differs from all our earlier productions. That’s why we call this method Zimsen Technical Silicone Treatment (Z-TST).
Except from main manufacturing process where we have focus on mixing and balance between the components of material, we have spent a lot of time to reach the best result for superb line profiles and tapers. There are 4 different tapers and each of them has a special purpose to serve with highest performance for different situations and needs. With that in mind we have first made taper to work best for the specific type of fishing. Then we added functions in the taper to widen the range of use. We have simply made a special line that also work as an all-round line.
Let us explain one example. We know there is a several fly fishers that prefer lines with a short head. We also know that fishers within this group have shown a tendency to wish their short headed lines to be slightly longer over the last years. We believe the average popular length for this type of lines is around 9-meter head today. Well, we also know what particular advantages these types of lines have and what purpose fishers think they serve best. One of the advantages with this line profile, that have a big mass over a short head and relatively short front taper is: It throws heavy and bulky flies better than a thin light line and they are obviously very popular for that job. Some of the disadvantage is that these lines tend to splash and present the fly very hard to the water when it’s used with smaller flies. Also when trying to cast distance some problems shows. It’s kind of tricky to preform nice distance casts that present the fly smooth. Maybe you can recognize yourself casting distance with a short headed line by having 5-10 meter of overhang of running line to carry enough to reach the desired distance. These casts tend to kick both in back and front when false casting and very often when distance casting with it it’s difficult to get the line to turn over and roll out straight in front.
Things like this we have taken into very serious consideration and for our model of short headed line we have construct a slightly longer front taper for fairly good presentation, but with maintained superb capability to turn over big and bulky flies. To avoid kicking and stabilize the line for distance casting we have made a 11-meter extended back taper without any compromise for the shooting capability because of the Zimsen Technical Silicone Treatment. We hope this explanation give you a view about our working process and philosophy within fly line designing. The choice of material, how to combine them and how to construct and form the final product is by us controlled in every detail.
This particular short head line we are talking about here is the Zimsen XPL9 WF 5-7 and that model has a 9-meter head and 11-meter extended back taper treated with Z-TST. If you choose to buy one of these lines from us, we recommend you to bring your old short headed line out and compare them both. Look particularly for comparison with the characteristics we have mention in text above. We are very sure you will notice the differences.

Zimsen XPL9 WF-7-F
Head A-D: 9,0 m
Weight A-D: 16,0 g
Line color: White
Line length: 30,0 m
Zimsen XPL9 WF 5-7 is a white single coloured floating short belly weight forward fly line. This model suits exceptional well for fishing with heavy and bulky flies. The taper is constructed to make roll, switch and spey casting very easy. The 11-meter extended back taper benefit the aspects of stabilize the line when carrying more line for the purpose of reaching greater distance. This fly line is treated with Zimsen Technical Silicone Treatment (Z-TST) that gives low friction and a superb shooting capability.
MXP12 WF-5-F
Head A-D: 12,1 m
Weight A-D: 13,0 g (9,5 g @ 9,14 m)
Line color: Pale green/grey
Line length: 30,0 m
MXP12 WF-6-F
Head A-D: 12,1 m
Weight A-D: 15,5 g (10,8 g @ 9,14 m)

MXP12 WF-7-F
Head A-D: 12,1 m
Weight A-D: 19,0 g (12,5 g @ 9,14 m)
Line color: Pale green/grey
Line length: 30,0 m
Zimsen MXP12 WF 5-7 is a twin coloured pale green/grey floating presentation fly line with a 12-meter head. The front taper 6-meter with a very thin diameter in front and the purpose for that shape is to give the best possible smooth and delicate presentation of small dry flies and nymphs. This line has an 8-meter extended back taper to stabilize the distance cast and it works fine to carry 20-meter before shooting to a distance cast presentation. The long back taper helps to control mending on greater distance. Note! The taper on this line is mainly for delicate presentation of small to medium size flies. Of course it works to cast heavier flies, but it’s not optimal for that job. This fly line is treated with Zimsen Technical Silicone Treatment (Z-TST) that gives low friction and a superb shooting capability.
MXD LB16 WF-5-F
Head A-D: 15,9 m
Weight A-D: 16,0 g (9,5 g @ 9,14 m)
Line color: Pale blue
Line length: 35,0 m
Zimsen MXD LB16 is a pale blue single coloured floating long belly fly line with a 16-meter head. This line model is the most “all-round” among our 4 different models. The line has a wide spectra of use, but we would like to especially point out the use for distance casting in places where it’s important to cover as big area of water as possible. This line is also constructed with an extended back taper of 6-meter and you will find it very balanced when carry 20-22-meter of line in false casting before you deliver the final distance cast. If you then are able to shoot 10 meter of running line you will get a 30 + meter cast. If you never ever have reached 30 meter and wish to do so. This is probably the line that will make you break that barrier for first time. This fly line is treated with Zimsen Technical Silicone Treatment (Z-TST) that gives low friction and a superb shooting capability.
MXD LB22 WF-5-F
Head A-E: 22,0 m
Weight A-E: 23,0 g (9,5 g @ 9,14 m)
Line color: Fluo orange
Line length: 40,0 m
Zimsen MXD LB22 is a flou orange single coloured floating long belly fly line with a 22-meter head. For this model we don’t need any particular extended back taper because the taper design is actually one long compound back taper measured from 4,5 meter from the tip. This is our model of a full long belly line that is typical in design to satisfied the genuine distance casters. For some reason beginners tend to think they can’t cast a 22-meter head. But if you take a closer look at the taper construction you will probably see all the same advantages a double taper has. And it’s actually possible to cast this line with just a few meters of it outside the rod tip, even for a beginner. Many of the experienced casters found this line having the widest use. The colour of bright orange makes it a good visible line to use for demo, shows and instructions. This fly line is treated with Zimsen Technical Silicone Treatment (Z-TST) that gives low friction and a superb shooting capability.
